Need Collagen? How Should We Take It?

Are Gummi bears a collagen supplement?

Here at the Foundation Beauty Studio, we have been advising on the benefits of collagen such as improved skin elasticity and hydration for some time. However, with weight loss jabs and similar treatments gaining in popularity collagen has become for many the new must have treatment or supplement. So, what are the benefits of collagen, do we need it, and how should collagen be taken?

Collagen has long been used by women to combat the effects of aging. From our twenties we start to lose collagen and the loss of collagen accelerates after we hit the menopause. The most abundant protein in our body, Collagen, plays a vital role in maintaining firmness, elasticity, and hydration of our skin. There are other types of collagen in our body, such as type II, which supports cartilage, and type III, which helps form blood vessels; each type has a distinct role in maintaining our health. Some evidence suggests that collagen peptides may support bone mineral density in some particularly postmenopausal women.

Collagen is being promoted by many to combat the effects of sudden weight loss caused by the slimming jabs and other weight loss treatments, which is why it has suddenly become the must have treatment or supplement. For those not looking to combat these effects collagen can still play a significant role in achieving the best appearance of our skin. You can include it as part of your daily skincare regime such as the collagen gel from Linda Meredith. You can also add a collagen treatment in into one of our bespoke facials or include one of our “Collagen Lift “treatments, a non-surgical treatment for skin tightening in your beauty treatments.

There is also the possibility of taking it orally and whilst a standard gummi bear contains collagen in the form of gelatin, this is not the suggested source of collagen, there is a whole raft of alternatives. Some collagen supplements are easier to take than others, with suggested amounts varying widely. For example, some recommend taking a small tablet or a few drops, while others suggest mixing tablespoons of powder into drinks. Here at the Foundation Beauty Studio, we offer a choice of two supplements which we are happy to share our findings with you.
