Foundation Beauty Studio Summer Skin Guide

The recent warm weather has had many of us reaching for sunscreen to protect their skin from the sun’s rays. Just as in the winter to avoid breakouts, damage etc, our skin in summertime may need a little extra help.

Sunscreen is an extra layer of product for our skin and therefore there is another layer to remove when it comes to our skincare regime. The key point after a day in the sun of wearing types of sun protection is to make sure it is all removed, and your pores are not clogged with perspiration or your sun protection. Even for those of us that do not double cleanse as part of our normal skincare regime when we are wearing sunscreen, extra makeup etc. It is a great time to include double cleansing as part of our daily skincare practices. You can either repeat the process with one product or use cleansers that can be used with each other such as Linda Meredith’s gel cleanser and cream cleanser.

The hot weather can also cause the skin to dehydrate so to keep your skin looking it is best; it is important to try and keep your skin hydrated. Many of us notice in hot weather our skin can appear more lined, and this can by dehydration and loss of collagen. By replenishing our skin with moisture and collagen we can reduce the appearance of these lines. Healing is important too, if your skin is feeling or looking like it is suffering the effects of the hot weather, make sure at night time you treat your skin with products that can heal the skin and improve its appearance. Facials can also help in providing cleansing and restorative treatments.

The type of sunscreen you use can also affect your skin. Whilst any sunscreen is better than none, it is best to use a broad-spectrum SPF product formulated for your face rather than a product for your body, as this may clog pores as mentioned before. You may also want to look at the type of product you use and choose to use a mineral based sunscreen. Jan Marini produces a tinted SPF so you may also choose not to wear foundation. “Jan Marini Physical Protectant SPF 45 utilises purely physical filters of zinc and titanium dioxide for broad-spectrum UVA and UVB protection to decrease the risk of premature skin ageing, sun damage and sunburn.”

There are other basic rules that can also assist with minimizing sun damage. These include reapplying sunscreen after the appropriate time or activities that may affect it working such as swimming, keeping out of the sun when it is at it’s strongest between 12 and 2 pm, wearing sunglasses, wearing a hat, and covering up with long sleeved or legged clothing.
