Exfoliation is the is the process of removing the dead skin cells from the outer layer of the skin and can assist your skins renewal process.

 Exfoliation can take different forms but should help to prevent clogged pores, prevent dry patches, even skin tone, and allow better penetration of skin products.

 After a summer when we have had exposure to stronger sun, and perhaps used additional products such as sun cream an exfoliation is an excellent way to reset your skin ahead of winter. 

 The right exfoliator is important . You should use a different exfoliator on your face to the one you do on your body as the skin on your face is more delicate and sensitive. Whilst an exfoliator may be gentle enough to not cause irritation to the skin on your face it may not be coarse enough to give you the desired effect for your thicker skin on the rest of your body. 

 Two types of exfoliation are popular at home:  physical where something physically removed the skin cells like a brush or gritty scrub and chemical where the chemical normally an acid or enzyme remove the skin cells. 

 Here at the Foundation Beauty Studio, as well as what can be offered at home , we also offer a range of products that offer different ways and degrees of exfoliation from Linda Meredith enzyme peel to Jan Marini glycolic peel to CACI Orbital Microdermabrasion. Linda Meredith’s enzyme peel uses a combination of natural fruit enzymes and botanical Oils to remove the build-up of dead skin cells, can be used at home. The glycolic peel and the microderm abrasion should be carried out in a salon by a suitably qualified therapist. 

 The exfoliation in the salon can be part of a facial after a cleanse and followed with a nourishing treatment. The exfoliation will allow the product to penetrate the skin better and give you better results. The method of exfoliation can be decided upon after a consultation with a therapist at the salon.
